Yes, Freedom Yurt-Cabin kits meet or exceed building codes across almost the entire North America. Our hard-sided Yurt-Cabins are engineered to the 2021 International Building Code (IBC) standards, ensuring structural integrity in all 4-seasons. In addition to being fully engineered structures, Freedom Yurt-Cabin Kits use traditional thermal insulation, not reflective radiant barriers! Utilizing builder-grade materials that your local officials can easily evaluate and approve. This makes your permitting process straightforward and familiar for building departments.
It’s a great question and one we hear often. The truth, is the only thing we share with traditional yurts is the round shape. Freedom Yurt-Cabin Kits are fundamentally different, offering code-compliant structural engineering and energy code-compliant performance of a permanent structure. Why Freedom Yurt-Cabin Kits Stand Apart:
  • Not a traditional soft-sided yurt: No fabric, No lattice; our system is a true hard-sided structure built for long-term durability.
  • Built for real-world conditions: Featuring true R-value insulation (not reflective barrier insulation), minimum 115 mph wind rating, engineered snow-load capacities that meet or exceed most building code requirements; offering a true 4-season yurt structure.
  • Engineered, prefabricated structure: Every Freedom Yurt-Cabin is a fully engineered, prefabricated Yurt-Cabin kit, designed for efficient installation and high performance.
  • Integrated construction system: Includes an engineered floor system, solid insulated walls, and an open wooden cathedral ceiling that is fully insulated.
  • Freedom Yurt-Cabin kits deliver the uniqueness of a yurt with the strength, safety, and energy efficiency of a fully engineered, code-compliant round structure, creating one of the most durable and premium hard-sided yurts available today.
Yes, this is a valid question we hear quite often. Our Yurt-Cabin Kits are fully engineered and more than capable of meeting almost every energy code and performance standard throughout North America. As builders of energy code-compliant yurts, our team is highly knowledgeable in regional requirements and use REScheck to document and demonstrate compliance, even in the most demanding “hot” or “cold” climate zones. Every region has its own insulation requirements; we offer multiple insulation package options to make your Yurt-Cabin meet or exceed local codes. R-values: Walls: R-9.7 up to R-23.95 Ceiling/Roof: R-13.17 up to R-30 Floor: Up to R-42 Freedom Yurt-Cabins has successfully secured approvals in U.S. Climate Zones 1–7, ensuring our structures perform exceptionally as a true 4-season yurt kit. We are knowledgeable of the documentation needed to streamline your permitting and compliance process.
More so yes than no, it depends on your structure’s location. Our Yurt-Cabin kits are structurally engineered to the 2021 IBC (International Building Code). We can provide a set of generic stamped plans for preliminary plan review and permitting submittals at no charge. If site-specific engineering is required, we work with our licensed engineering consultants who can provide state-sealed plans for all 50 U.S. states (and other countries) for additional fees. These services can include wind and snow load analyses, as well as any other structural requirements requested by your local building department.
