Located near Fairfield, Nebraska, Spring Ranch Campground offers a unique Nebraska glamping experience on 240 acres along the Oregon Trail and Little Blue River. This scenic destination was in need of new, unique housing options to increase its occupancy and become a destination for large group getaways. Freedom Yurts brought the perfect blend of comfort and intrigue to the business, providing a high-yield accommodation and giving guests a new way to glamp.
Meet the Owners
Kim and Owen Nelson are seasoned entrepreneurs. With extensive experience in hospitality, food service, outdoor recreation, and sporting goods retail, it’s safe to say running and operating Spring Ranch Campground is not the Nelsons’ first rodeo. The campground’s portfolio prior to 2025 included two refurbished wagons and one cozy cabin, each at a going rate of $250 a night. The entire property slept a total of 14 people, and the Nelsons knew that the campground was in a place for strategic growth. With plenty of space to expand, the campground could add new accommodations and price them in line with luxury hospitality standards.
Project Details
After thorough research and a careful review of multiple housing options, the Nelsons selected Freedom Yurts — a connection which had been made through a previous business network. These luxury yurts priced at $375/night blend the allure of sleeping under canvas with the indulgence of a boutique hotel, a winning combination for those who love the thrill of being off-grid without giving up warmth, comfort, or a little bit of magic.
The Nelsons needed two yurts:
- One 2-bedroom yurt-cabin with a 25 ft. loft to comfortably sleep 6
- One single bedroom yurt-cabin with a 22 ft. loft to sleep 4
Challenges

Final Results
The addition of Freedom Yurts enabled the Nelsons to reach new market segments while increasing yield per night by 50%. By diversifying their glamping accommodations, Spring Ranch Campground also achieved a 41.67% increase in overall occupancy. Previously, the property comfortably accommodated just 14 guests when rented in full; today, it can host groups of 24 or more. As a result, the Nelsons are on track to see a full return on their investment within two years.
